Stress: The Silent Killer

How is stress impacting you, your family, your career, your business, or your life?

Did you know that 40% of adults lay awake at night because of stress? 1 in 3 teenagers suffer from chronic stress. Nearly 15 million American adults are affected yearly by depression? And, as taxpayers, businesses, and a society as a whole; the costs to treat depression are estimated between $44-$55 Billion annually in the U.S. – these are comparable to costs associated with coronary heart disease! Although abusive relationships can span from emotional, to financial, and the most commonly spoken of – physical – severe physical violence alone already effects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men during their lifetimes.

Do you think all of these statistics might have a bearing on stress and your business or career? Employers may say that when an employee walks into work, the personal lives are left at the door but the truth of the matter is – that isn’t true.

Lack of confidence or insecurity, is cited as one of the main contributing factors for long term anxiety, depression, and staying involved in an abusive relationship – ALL stress induced or stress additive situations.

With the astronomical financials, statistics, and that depression itself is the leading cause of disability worldwide; I believe it is indisputable that insecurity – either personally OR professionally has a profound impact on careers, businesses, bottom lines, our economy, and LIVES.

I chose the pictures I did for the collage in this post because when you Google confidence quotes you receive over 6 million results… change the words to ‘love yourself’ and it increases to over 100 million results. Notice that one of the images is of two people holding each other. It has been proven that cuddling actually helps to kill depression. Why do you think that may be?

    Because they feel loved.

So why doesn’t any one talk about this? Why do we only seem to bring up stress, anxiety, depression, insecurity, or lack of confidence when it is followed up or preceded by discussions of bullying, cyber bullying, or abuse. Again, abuse is more than just physical and none of these things would have the power they currently do over anyone if we worked more on the underlying ailments: insecurity and lack of self-confidence.

So, yes, I am here to point out that everyone can have moments of insecurity; no matter how successful they appear to be from the outside. Some of the most famous people have battled depression due to insecurities. Insecurity is both silent and deadly but it doesn’t have to be. If you are able to increase your own self-confidence, self-worth, and security just a little bit, it WILL create a domino effect. The mind is a muscle and the more we work it, the stronger it becomes. ‘Change’ that can have such drastic end results in one’s personal and professional life does not require drastic measures; that my friends, is a myth and ultimately an excuse, we tell ourselves to avoid it and be afraid of it. So, whether you are an employee or an employer; these changes yield greater efficiency, greater productivity, less stress, less time off, increased bottom lines, and overall loyalty, happiness, and success!

All of these reasons are why I am so passionate about what I am blessed to do every day with my ability to teach lifelong, but most importantly – TANGIBLE, tools and skills to people and businesses to empower them to create more of their own CONFIDENCE. After all, we know that all success stems from that strong foundation of confidence and we all deserve to experience a greater level of confidence in life.

Thus it is only logical to conclude that the more confident one is, the more actions one will take, and the greater the results one will experience. Confidence tools won’t change your life in one day; remember it is a muscle that you will learn to exercise. But the confidence tools will be taught to you in one day and learning how to harness the skills you already have makes ‘change’ the least scary path to travel.

So … how is stress impacting your family? Your friends? Your business? Your life? Your confidence? Your insecurity? What small changes can you make? Will you make?

My wish for all is to take an action today. Any action. Any size of action. Grow, Let Go, and Take Control!

CONFIDENCE. ACTIONS. RESULTS.™
